Welcome to the entrepreneur like you, business attorney and entrepreneur chance reynolds, a daily podcast that brings you the best legal tips, marketing strategies, and storytelling tactics that will help you grow your business the right way. What are the most common? He's

the vice advice that I hear is that you should learn to say no to things and saying no to things is so super important. And if you don't say no, your business can't grow. All these kind of just weird little sayings that people have about business and how to grow your business. But I think for the most part that's actually bullshit because if you don't say yes to things that make you uncomfortable and to things that you don't necessarily know how to do, you'll never know if your business can grow into that direction. So yes, it's important to learn to learn how to say no to people that are asking you to do things that are outside of the realm of your business that you just can't do because, um, you won't be able to move forward at all in your business if you do that.

But people will come to you with all sorts of stuff, asking you to do stuff that makes you uncomfortable, that you don't think you want to do, that you would never dream that you could do. And it's important to to try a lot of those things. And maybe that's not going to be the slickest, most systematized part of your business, but you'll never know if that's something that could actually benefit your business or something that you'll like or something that might provide the most value to your customer in the end until you try it. And so that's kind of the main thing. If you don't give people what they want from your business and from yourself, then you're not going to be able to really have a business. So if the most common thing that people come to you asking you for is that you just for example, for me.

So lcs are by far the most common thing that I do. And when I first started my business, I had the, the biggest intention that that's all I was going to do. No contracts, nothing else. Just all that's going to take up all my time and it does take a 99 percent of my time, but people come to me with all sorts of stuff and sometimes it's family members needing some help and sometimes it's just somebody randomly run into that just has a question about whatever it is that, that they were going on, you know, that they have going on in their lives as far as like legal aspects or who knows what it could be. It could be so many things. Um, so I wanted [inaudible] to be the number one thing that I did and they are the number one thing that I do.

And I started off really stubborn just saying like, nope, everybody's going to have to go through this pipeline and that's how I want to do it. And that's how I envisioned my business. But people don't care how you envision your business. They only care about getting what they want. And if you want to be good at business, you have to give them what they want. Not every business is. There are some exceptions where people can really dictate exactly what they do with their time, and I'm not saying that you should chase money as far as doing things you don't want to do just for the money. I don't think that's a good reason. A good reason to do it is to see what the system is to complete whatever project they've asked you to complete and if you can provide a really quick and easy system for that.

Even if you can't necessarily make a lot of money, you might realize that you have a talent for something other than what you're doing and that you might be able to offer a new product. So remember that when you're creating your business, you need to make sure that you understand the difference between a business and a product. And this is a mistake I've made an icu in a mistake that I see a lot of people making and why they're not branching out into new areas is because they have an idea for a product and that's the only product that they want to sell and they're moving forward. But most companies that just have one product are not going to be that successful. I mean, that's just the sad reality of it. If you have a business businesses sell multiple products and maybe one product you like less than the other, but maybe offering, you know, contract services or something for me that uh, people eat on a daily basis even though I don't really like doing contracts nearly as much as I liked doing all.

And I'm not as knowledgeable about contracts as I am about llc is if that's what people are wanting and people are coming to me the most with that, that's something I should consider, you know, creating as a product and people are going to be coming to me with that anyway. Even if I can outsource it or partner up with somebody else to do the contracts portion of it, you can just do the sales part of it. And then when they need an llc or they need some other legal, you know, product that you could sell to them, they're going to come to you because you've already helped them get what they want. And you did a good job and you, you know, you came to you with a problem and you solved it. So next time they have a problem, they'll probably come to you to get it solved. And that's why you shouldn't just say no to doing all these things that you don't want to do. Sometimes you got to do things you don't want to do business as business. Um, I'm not saying that you should be a slave to someone else's time, you know, make sure that your time is being used in the best way for your business, but also makes sure that you're not getting stuck on one product and not expanding your business because you're reading. All the gurus say that you to learn how to say no.
